When you itch, you often just scratch your skin without thinking about it.
Most itching is just dry or irritated skin, but when your itching is inflamed and does not go away, or when it’s causing flaking of your skin, it might be psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema, or another medical condition.
Other than scratching, what can you do?
If you’ve been diagnosed with any of these conditions, or even if you just have really dry skin, after consulting with your primary health care provider, our Organic Psoriasis Shampoo + Body Wash might offer some relief and help you manage your skin back to health.
It’s not just for people with psoriasis! It’s for anyone with dry, itching, or sensitive skin.
What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a condition that causes skin cells to grow quickly, producing the build-up and formation of scales (or plaques), and itchy, dry patches on the skin.
The most common symptom of psoriasis is a rash on the skin, but sometimes the rash involves the nails or joints.
Psoriasis can occur anywhere but is most commonly found on the elbows, knees, neck, hands and feet, and scalp. Babies and young children commonly have it and often outgrow it.
Psoriasis may be an immune system issue and can be triggered by things like infection, stress, cold weather, your diet, trauma to your skin, or weight gain. These triggers can cause a new flare-up, or make an existing outbreak worse.
How Is Psoriasis Treated?
This is where we jump in.
Current treatments might help you manage the condition, whether it’s psoriasis, eczema, or dermatitis, but they often wreak havoc on, or just plain neglect, the health of your skin.
Psoriasis is often treated via topical ointments, light therapy, and medications. The treatments work by removing the scales from the skin, calm itching, and stopping skin cells from growing too quickly.
On Your Scalp
When psoriasis occurs on the scalp, treatment may include a medicated shampoo.
The medicated shampoos used to treat psoriasis are tough. They are meant to treat the scalp, not the hair, and are filled with harsh ingredients that help remove the scales caused by psoriasis. These harsh ingredients are not friendly to your hair. They can be thick with ingredients that leave your hair feeling greasy or that weigh the hair down. They can also irritate the skin that’s not inflicted.
When using a medicated shampoo, you should apply it only to your roots and scalp. Your hair does not have psoriasis, your scalp does. So keep your treatment contained as best you can.
How do you get it off your hair? RINSE. Rinse your hair for a long time (2 minutes) to ensure the medicated shampoo is completely removed.
While medicated shampoos have improved since they were first created, they are really focused on the condition (psoriasis) and not on cleaning your hair or leaving your hair healthy. They very often leave a medicinal smell on your hair, too.
You can follow your medicated shampoo with a non-medicated, gentle shampoo to clean your hair, keeping it away from your scalp. And always follow your shampoo with a gentle, moisturizing conditioner, again, keeping it away from your scalp.
That same gentle shampoo can be used in between the days you use your medicated shampoos.
Choose your shampoo carefully. Most store-bought shampoos are far too harsh for your scalp, even if you do not have psoriasis.
Harsh ingredients strip your hair from everything, including your hair’s all-important natural oils and nutrients. This leaves your hair fragile and damaged — frizzy, dry, dull, and splitting.
On Your Body
As with your psoriasis on your scalp, psoriasis that occurs on the body is often treated with medicated topical ointments, light therapy, or medications. Again, these treatments are created to remove the plaques, not to heal the skin.
To give your skin the environment it needs to heal, you need to take care of the skin along with the condition that’s irritating it.
That means keeping your skin clean, hydrated, and protected – especially with a condition like psoriasis, eczema, or dermatitis. Avoiding products that contain harsh ingredients, perfumes, and sulfates is part of this care. These ingredients can irritate your already sensitive skin, making your condition more difficult to manage.
This is why we created our Organic Psoriasis Shampoo + Body Wash.
It’s a gentle shampoo and body wash that will not irritate your scalp or skin. It gently cleans your hair and skin, and helps promote a healthy environment for your skin to begin healing.
- It’s perfectly pH balanced at 5.5 to improve absorption and support your skin’s natural barrier.
- Contains no harsh chemicals or fragrances to prevent irritation.
- Contains no sulfates, SLS, sodium chloride, parabens, drying alcohols, gluten, dyes, or phthalates, making it safe for sensitive skin, even for children and babies.
It’s not just for psoriasis. The Psoriasis Shampoo + Body Wash helps with dermatitis, eczema, and dry skin, too. It’s safe for use on adults, children, and babies and is a tear-free formula.
Ingredients like Aloe Vera, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour, and Calendula help calm, heal, and hydrate your skin. And the anti-inflammatory properties of these ingredients can help reduce the redness, itching, and puffiness that often accompanies eczema, dry skin, or psoriatic rashes.
Using this shampoo and body wash will help you to clean your skin and hair without irritation, hydrate dry skin, and soothe the irritation caused by the overgrowth of skin cells.
Other Things That May Help
Lifestyle adjustments, like not smoking, managing your stress, taking vitamins, and a healthy diet, may also help heal these conditions and help keep your skin clear. Talk with your health care professional for more tips related to your specific condition.
Our Organic Psoriasis Shampoo + Body Wash is not meant to replace any medicated shampoo or topical ointments you are using. You may find yourself using less of your medicated products, or not — but you will definitely notice a difference in your skin, hair, and scalp.
Be gentle with your skin and it will glow!
