Do you remember watching superheroes as a kid? They all had incredible powers…

Some were muscular. Some could twist their bodies into pretzels to accomplish heroic tasks. Others had cool gadgets they could use to fight for good.

What if we told you there was something that was like a superhero for your skin… Strong. Flexible. Maybe even with a few cool superpowers.

Would you want to know what it was and use it immediately?

It’s green tea.

Green tea is derived from the leaves and buds of the Camellia Sinensis plant. This same plant is also used in Oolong and black teas, but green tea does not go through the same withering and oxidation process, which is why green tea has superpowers.

Green Tea’s Superpowers

The magic component of green tea is the polyphenols (also called catechins). These potent powerhouses have anti-microbial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties that can transform your skin.

Scientific studies in 2016 and 2018 proved that these polyphenols were effective at treating acne-prone and oily skin, and delivered powerful anti-aging benefits as well.

As a superhero, green tea is both protective and corrective. Meaning it helps protect your skin from damage and helps it to heal, restoring its beauty.

Green tea has been used for centuries on both hair and skin, because of its multifaceted nature. It’s been studied as a treatment for a variety of conditions, like acne, rosacea, psoriasis, viral warts, and even skin cancer.

Some of green tea’s superpowers are quite impressive.

Minimizes Signs of Aging

As an antioxidant, green tea scavenges free radicals caused by environmental stressors like UV radiation and pollution. Free radicals damage skin cells causing DNA damage to them, which prematurely ages your skin. Polyphenols fight this damage by promoting DNA repair.

This helps protect your skin from further damage and can reduce the signs of sun damage, such as hyperpigmentation, rough texture, and fine lines.

Reduces Excess Sebum

Sebum is an oily substance produced in the sebaceous glands. It mixes with fat molecules, called lipids, to form a protective coating on the surface of your skin. This helps hydrate the skin and protect it from potentially harmful pathogens, such as bacteria and fungi. But it’s a balancing act. Too much sebum can clog your pores. Too little leaves your skin vulnerable.

Green tea helps balance sebum production. Combined with its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, this makes it an effective superhero tool for healing acne and restoring normalcy to oily complexions.

When used topically, green tea can make a difference in the presence of acne and blackheads. Research has shown that a lotion made with a two percent concentration of green tea extract can eliminate close to half of all acne when used twice a day.

Soothes Your Skin

Green tea can reduce inflammation in skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dandruff. This means less irritation, puffiness, and itch.

Its anti-inflammatory properties are not only good for healing skin, but they help reduce puffiness under your eyes.

And the small amounts of caffeine present in green tea is another superpower. It helps tighten the skin in the delicate area around your eyes by slightly constricting the blood vessels. You can leave your bags at home with a little green tea!

Saving the Day

Like all superheroes, green tea saves the day (and your skin)!

It really protects and corrects skin damage, fine lines, wrinkles, acne, and oily complexions. It’s amazing benefits are why we’ve chosen to use it in our Vitamin C Moisturizer and Brilliant Eyes eye cream.

Maybe best of all, green tea has no known side effects. Provided you do not have an allergy to it, it’s safe for everyone to use.

Strong. Flexible. And with a few cool superpowers… Green tea just may be even better than your favorite superhero. 💖

Winter Skin Is Real https://luxeorganix.com/winter-skin-is-real/ Fri, 03 Mar 2023 12:43:33 +0000 https://luxeorganix.com/?p=14132 The post Winter Skin Is Real appeared first on LuxeOrganix.

]]>

In the dead of winter, it’s not just the landscape that’s looking dull. Many people struggle with dry, flaky skin at this time of year. Itchy, cracked, dry hands, lips, and faces abound.

Winter skin is real, but you don’t have to deal with it.

One solution has been around for thousands of years, and it still works. What is it?

It’s the olive.

why olive oil is good for your skin

Olives have been used throughout history for cooking, cleaning, healing, lighting, health, and beauty.

Known by its botanical name, Olea europaea, the olive was cultivated and used by the Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans. The earliest production of olive oil is thought to have started before 4000 BC.

The Olive fruit, which is pressed to make olive oil, is prized for its emollient, moisturizing properties. (Emollients are what make your skin soft and smooth.)

Olives Are Rich

Olive oil is rich in antioxidants and vitamins. It contains vitamins A, D, K, and E, as well as squalane.

Used in skincare products, the antioxidant properties of olive oil protect skin cells from environmental damage and inflammation. This is a real boon for skin suffering from the dyness, itching, and flaking that comes with harsh winter weather.

olive oil used for skincare

All of those vitamins decrease the effects of oxidative stress on your skin. Oxidative stress is an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants in your body, and one of the causes of accelerated skin aging… So, say good by to wrinkles!

Olive oil’s main benefit to your skin is that it’s a great moisturizer. Olive oil hydrates and forms a protective barrier on your skin, thanks in part to the squalane it contains. This is a blessing to winter skin, and to anyone struggling with itchy, dryness caused by psoriasis or eczema.

It’s the Squalane…

Squalane (with an “a“) is a plant-based version of squalene (with an “e”), which is naturally produced by your body. More specifically, Squalene is a lipid, or fat, made naturally by the sebaceous glands in your skin. It hydrates and maintains the barrier of your skin.

After the age of 30, the amount of squalene your body produces decreases. This is why you have drier skin as you age. The squalane in olive oil acts like the squalene produced by your body. It can benefit all skin types (including sensitive skin).

Because it works to naturally seal in moisture, squalane helps with problems where the skin barrier is disrupted and water loss is an issue. This includes conditions like eczema, acne, and psoriasis, and things like dry air and cold winds which are abundant in the winter months and at higher elevations.

Olive oil is like a superfood for your skin. It:

 • Prevents premature aging
 • Moisturizes and softens
 • Reduces inflammation and scarring
 • Softens fine lines and wrinkles
 • Reduces oxidative stress
 • Protects from environmental damage

That stands the test of time.

The Only Flower to Fall In Love With https://luxeorganix.com/the-only-flower-to-fall-in-love-with/ Tue, 14 Feb 2023 00:26:42 +0000 https://luxeorganix.com/?p=50320 The post The Only Flower to Fall In Love With appeared first on LuxeOrganix.

]]>

Valentine’s Day is a traditional day to celebrate love with chocolates and flowers.

This year, rather than spending all of your money on roses, take a chance on a tiny flower with a gigantic dose of special magic.

It’s a common flower native to Europe, Asia, and Africa, but it’s been naturalized in North and South America, too.

Cows munch on it, honey bees love it, and people have used it in any number of beauty and medicinal potions for ages.

These round, reddish, porcupine-petaled flowers cover most meadows from May through September.

Do you know what it is?

It’s red clover.

And red clover, or Trifolium Pratense as it’s formally known, has some amazing abilities when it comes to winding back the hands of time for your skin.

What Makes Red Clover Great

Red clover is a wonder nutrient for your skin. It contains calcium, chromium, magnesium, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, thiamine, and vitamin C.

It’s also rich in isoflavones, which stimulate your skin’s natural collagen production, improve your skin’s moisture levels, and increase the thickness of your skin.

In “what does it do for me” terms, that means it nourishes your skin so that it can grow (think “new skin”). It minimizes lines, plumps up wrinkles so they disappear, and increases your skin’s elasticity, making it softer and more youthful looking.

Red clover is particularly useful as a remedy for eczema and psoriasis because it contains powerful antioxidants and isoflavones. These wonder compounds regenerate and stimulate the cellular metabolism of the skin.

…That’s an added bonus for dry and mature skin!

More Interesting Facts

Red clover is more than just a skincare ingredient. Chefs, animals, and the Earth love this mighty plant.

Red clover is a legume, like beans, peas, lentils, and peanuts. It’s edible from roots to flowers. You’ll find fresh red clover flowers and greens in salads, cocktails, canapes, and desserts.

The flowers taste a little like raw green beans with just a hint of sweetness. The leaves are often added to salads or spinach and used when cooking with lamb, amaranth, collards, or other wilted greens.

It’s also a favorite food of many animals, though game birds and furry friends are probably its most frequent diners. Quail, wild turkey, marmot, and woodchucks prefer the leaves and seeds of red clover. On a farm, cows, horses, and sheep will spend a lot of time grazing in red clover fields. 😊

And speaking of farms, red clover is becoming a go-to for farmers. As a legume, red clover is able to take nitrogen from the air and bind it in nodules on their roots, called “nitrogen fixing.” This provides the plant with more than enough of the nitrogen it needs to grow. Leftover nitrogen is left in the soil fertilizing it organically and with more abundance than chemical fertilizers. This allows farmers to quickly restore depleted nutrients without the use of chemicals. It’s so effective that red clover has become essential in true organic farming.

WOW!

Your skin, chefs, animals, and the Earth love this little plant. Can it help banish wrinkles? We think so. That’s why we’ve used organic red clover in our Remarkably Clean Purifying Facial Cleanser.

This anti-aging powerhouse plant works wonders on wrinkles, sagging skin, and fine lines while keeping your skin calm, supple, and itch-free.

We think you’ll love it, too. 💖

What’s The Right Order For Your Skin Care Routine? https://luxeorganix.com/whats-the-right-order-for-your-skin-care-routine/ Sat, 31 Dec 2022 23:00:35 +0000 https://luxeorganix.com/?p=47992 The post What’s The Right Order For Your Skin Care Routine? appeared first on LuxeOrganix.

]]>

One question we get asked a lot is about the correct order of your skin care routine. And we get it: Figuring out the right order of your products when the difference between serum and moisturizer can make your head spin can be a challenge.

And as much as we wish we could say that the order of your skincare products does not matter… it does.

In fact, it’s important.

Why?

Well, let’s start with a quick anatomy lesson…

Your skin is made of layers of cells, each specialized in what they do. Skin cells are produced at the innermost layer. They rise to the surface (the outermost layer) and some specialize as they do. Skin cells do not last forever. They live for about two or three weeks. When they die, they are replaced by younger cells. This process causes the dead cells to be pushed to the surface of your skin where they can fall off.

You lose 30,000 – 40,000 dead skin cells each minute. (That’s about 50 million cells per day!)

If these cells do not fall off of the top layer of skin, it can cause problems like dull flakey skin, acne, dry patches, and wrinkles. Clogged pores may also prevent some of your skincare products from actually helping your skin.

Your Products Are Specific

Each type of product, from your cleanser to your moisturizer, is formulated differently. You probably notice this with the thickness of the product, known as viscosity. Some products are much thicker, right?

This is because your products are created to penetrate your skin, and each other, differently. Some products are made to go deep into the layers of the skin, and others are meant to be closer to the surface.

The level of penetration largely depends on what the product is supposed to do. For example, products that block the sun, like sunscreen, remain close to the surface of your skin, while products that brighten the color of your skin are intended to sink deeper into your skin. This is why some products are made to be thick, and others to be looser.

Thicker, more viscose products will be stopped closer to the top layer of your skin. That topmost layer acts as your skin’s primary barrier. Not much gets in to the layers below it. That sunscreen, for example… It won’t make it much deeper.

But serum is typically less viscose than sunscreen, so it can penetrate deeper into your skin. If you apply your sunscreen first, however, you will block any other product from sinking into your skin. A product with less viscosity cannot penetrate easily a product with a higher viscosity.

The order you use products really does have an impact.

What’s the correct order for using your products?

The basic rule of thumb is to apply the lightest viscosity products first and the heaviest last. Remember, thinner products cannot penetrate thicker products.

In general, you do not need an eight-step (or even a six-step) skincare routine. Most people do better with fewer products, so keep it simple: cleanser, serum, eye cream, moisturizer.

That’s it. Four simple products. Seriously. This works for everyone.

First

First, and this is more important than knowing your way to work (we all have Google Maps, right?) — Remove your makeup and wash your face before you use any other products.

For ingredients to absorb properly, you need clean skin. (That dirt you don’t see might be enough to keep your moisturizer from penetrating!)

Which means. if you want to do things right, use a proper cleanser.

In the Morning

Wash your face with a good cleanser, like our Remarkably Clean Purifying Facial Cleanser. It will help clean your skin and wake it up for your daily routine. The activated bamboo charcoal helps draw out any impurities that are lurking in your pores. A good cleanser is always the perfect start to your skincare.

Makeup wipes might seem like a fast solution, especially if you’re at the gym, but they leave behind a layer of residue that can irritate your skin. If you’re using these before you put your makeup on, you’re just adding makeup to sweat, dirt, and residue. Yuck. Take a moment and use a good cleanser.

At Night

Cleaning your skin at night is even more important than in the morning! A full day’s worth of grime and pollutions (and we’re not even talking about makeup) from everything you did is sitting on and in your pores. You’ve got to clean this out, especially before bed. Nighttime is when your skin works to produce more skin cells, and make you look your best. It cannot do its best when it’s burdened down with dirt, germs, and grime.

Bonus!

Remember those dead cells? You can help them leave your skin surface sooner (and keep your complexion clear) if you use an exfoliator a few times each week. Make it part of your nighttime routine and you’ll be amazed at the skin you wake up with! Our ReNew Exfoliating Face Mask Polishing Scrub is perfect for this. It contains AHA glycolic acid, bamboo, and walnut for the ideal exfoliating blend of small and large grit to instantly polish away dull, dry skin, blemishes, and dead skin cells.

Daily use of an exfoliator, for most people, is too much. But two or three times a week is perfect. Use it after your cleanser and before you apply anything else.

Second

Serum, we love you! This is the one product you likely never use because you don’t know you need it. Serums are extremely concentrated nutrients, hydrating ingredients, and antioxidants that power up your skin’s health almost as soon as you use it. Honestly, these silky little gems are the heavy lifters of any skincare routine. Although serums are optional, they are amazing for boosting your overall skin health.

In the Morning

A vitamin C serum, like our Kakadu Vitamin C Brightening Serum, actually protects your skin from inflammation and damage caused by the environment. Things like sunshine, wind, and pollution wreak havoc on your skin. The vitamin C will help brighten your skin and lighten dark spots over time. It’s really the MVP of skincare.

At Night

A serum filled with hyaluronic acid is great for nighttime use. Hyaluronic acid actually pulls water from the air into your skin to plump it up and keep it hydrated. The Kakadu serum is loaded with hyaluronic acid and organic Reishi mushrooms. This power-duo holds moisture, reduces inflammation, puffiness, wrinkles & free radical damage, while also promoting cell regeneration. Just because you’re asleep doesn’t mean your skin is! It works overtime to repair damage and give you a beautiful glow.

Third

Use an eye cream. Consider using one even if you don’t have dark circles, fine lines, or wrinkles… An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Eye creams tend to be lighter and thinner than face moisturizers, so make sure to apply them before you use your moisturizer. It’s crazy how much this all makes sense now, isn’t it?

In the Morning

If you wake up with puffy eyes, our Brilliant Eyes eye cream can help! It’s made with Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, and Witch Hazel – all of which help reduce swelling, puffiness, fine lines, and under-eye bags. This mighty formula uses other natural ingredients, like eyebright, to reduce discoloration under your eyes and on your lids.

At Night

Most people think their night eye cream has to be super thick and include some sort of retinol to help with fine lines. The reality is that your eye area is delicate, so you need to be gentle, both with your technique and your products. Brilliant Eyes is a gentle, soothing, lightweight moisturizer that delivers an amazing number of nutrients. It helps keep your eye area tight and bright for a more youthful appearance.

Fourth

This is your last step, before using any makeup!

Moisturize.

Everyone needs to use a moisturizer. Always. Twice a day. No matter what. Even if your skin is oily or struggles with breakouts.

Moisturizer is the only thing that keeps your skin’s natural barrier—which is the very thing responsible for making your skin look good—healthy and happy. Moisturizers hydrate your skin and also help lock in all of the products that lie beneath it.

In the Morning

A lightweight moisturizer, like our Vitamin C Moisturizer, will keep your skin hydrated without feeling heavy or greasy. For an added boost, let it sink in for a full five minutes before applying your makeup.

At Night

Your skin is in full repair mode at night. It’s working extra hard to fix any damage and boost skin cell regeneration. Your nighttime moisturizer should be filled with all the things your body naturally produces and can use more of, like peptides, lipids, and proteins. You can find all of this (and more!) in our Vitamin C Moisturizer.

One Last Thought

We mentioned sunscreen earlier, and it’s worth a bit more detail… Sunscreen isn’t trying to penetrate your skin—it’s designed to sit on top and protect your face from UV rays.

Medical and skin care professionals say that you need to use sunscreen daily. If It’s part of your daily routine, great! Use it after your moisturizer and before your makeup for optimal benefits.

And that’s it!

Are You Cuckoo For Coconuts https://luxeorganix.com/are-you-cuckoo-for-coconuts/ Thu, 15 Dec 2022 05:07:34 +0000 https://luxeorganix.com/?p=50369 The post Are You Cuckoo For Coconuts appeared first on LuxeOrganix.

]]>

If you knew what coconuts could do for your hair, you’d be cuckoo for them!

Seriously.

Coconuts, which grow on coconut palm trees, are not actually nuts, they’re fruits.

More accurately, they are fibrous one-seeded drupes, which are fruits with a hard covering enclosing the seed.

Coconuts are a much-loved staple in the tropics where they are used for food, oil, cosmetics, and fuel, among other things.

Crack one open and beneath the outer husk and shell, you’ll find coconut meat, coconut milk, and coconut water. This is a delicious treasure trove, and there’s more! Pressing the fresh meat will give you coconut oil, and that’s that substance your hair adores.

Hair & Scalp Eat It Up

Coconut oil is a rich source of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), a type of saturated fat. The fatty acids in coconut oil naturally nourish your scalp and help to remove sebum buildup from hair follicles, supporting healthy hair growth.

Coconut oil may be especially helpful for thinning hair because of the nutrients it provides.

And Lauric acid, one of the fatty acids in coconut oil, also has antimicrobial and antifungal properties. This may help keep your scalp healthy and strong.

Studies show that coconut oil can boost the moisture content of dry skin. It may also improve the function of the skin, helping to keep your skin’s outer barrier strong and preventing excessive water loss. A strong barrier will also protect you from external factors, like UV rays, pollution, germs, chemicals, and allergens.

This is why we included it in our Coconut Oil Deep Conditioner Hair Mask. The Certified Organic Virgin Coconut Oil deeply hydrates, nourishes, and protects your hair.

A little coconut oil on your scalp, like you’ll get when using our hair mask, will give your hair a strong place to call home.

That’s not all it does, though.

Using coconut oil as a hair mask treatment helps to moisturize and seal hair. This can help prevent a dry, flaky scalp, dandruff, and hair breakage.

Bonus: If your hair is properly moisturized and not breaking it will look shinier, stronger, and longer.

Processed hair loves coconut oil, too.

Hair that’s been chemically treated, colored, styled with heat tools, and exposed to pollution can dry out and become damaged. Coconut oil can help! It provides a barrier to protect your scalp and hair, and blocks irritants and bacteria from causing damage. It may also act as a sunscreen to keep UV rays at bay.

The coconut oil in our Argan Oil Styling Cream conditions and softens your hair while adding great shine for a light, bouncy style. Use a little of this when you’re using heat styling tools, or for a beachy wave without heat, and you’ll get an extra boost of protection.

Your hair will thank you!

Grow Strong Hair

Coconut oil helps reduce protein loss in all hair types. Protein loss makes hair more porous, more fragile, and more prone to breaking. Hair without enough protein can also look dull and lifeless,

And Lauric acid, one of the MCT fatty acids in coconut oil, protects the roots of your hair. It also helps prevent hair breakage and easily penetrates deep into the hair shaft making it a perfect conditioner for hair. It will leave your hair soft and help tame the frizzies.

That’s why you’ll find organic coconut oil in our Bond Integrity Protein Hair Treatment. It’s there to help build and restore your hair’s protein bonds, keep your hair strong, and fortify it to grow longer.

Now that you know how and why we use coconut oil, the $10,000 dollar question is…

How will you use it?

Sage Advice for Your Hair https://luxeorganix.com/sage-advice-for-hair/ Thu, 20 Oct 2022 01:59:08 +0000 https://luxeorganix.com/?p=50088 The post Sage Advice for Your Hair appeared first on LuxeOrganix.

]]>

By the time we’re in our 50s, one in four women and 85 percent of men experience hair loss.

Did that fact grab your attention?

While some hair loss may be genetic, you can take steps to ensure your hair and scalp are healthy, minimizing hair thinning and continuing hair growth as long as possible.

And it’s never too late to start.

We’ve explained hair loss and the hair growth cycle in other blog posts. (You can read the truth about hair loss, the many causes of hair loss, and the hair growth secret hiding in your kitchen.) But we haven’t spent a lot of time talking about sage.

Sage, or Salvia Officinalis, if you prefer a more formal name, is an evergreen herb with a lot of varieties. In fact, Salvia, from the Latin word salvere, translates as “to be saved.” And it just may save your hair.

This herb is part of the mint family along with rosemary, oregano, basil, lavender, and thyme.

Sage is a known antibiotic, antiseptic, antibacterial, and anti-fungal. Sage is loaded with vitamins B and C, and minerals like magnesium, zinc, and potassium.

This powerhouse herb helps manage dandruff, dermatitis, and psoriasis, heal the skin, reduce inflammation, balance sebum production, and prevent clogged hair follicles.

All of this improves the growth and strength of your hair.

Sage Prevents Hair Fall

Sage contains high levels of beta-sitosterol, a 5-alpha reductase compound that has been proven effective in treating hair fall, especially with male and female pattern baldness.

Unlike peppermint essential oil, which is also used to promote hair growth, sage strengthens circulation and as a result, could prevent hair follicles from being starved of nutrition from an insufficient blood supply, which would cause them to die off, and lead to hair loss.

It also helps keep hair follicles from becoming clogged. Clogged follicles cut off the supply of nutrition to your hair, which again cut off their blood supply and causes them to die off. Fewer follicles means less hair.

Sage Promotes Hair Growth

Another study of sage proved that it stimulated hair growth. This occurred when hair loss was triggered by testosterone (as in pattern baldness).

Sage can boost blood circulation in the scalp, increasing the supply of nutrients to the hair follicles. This alone would promote hair growth. Sage also helps to keep follicles unblocked with its anti-inflammatory properties, and essential compounds such as Vitamin A, B, and C nourish and stimulate hair growth.

Sage May Reverse Greying

Sage is also reported to intensify and darken your natural hair color when used regularly. (Bye-bye, greys!)

Whether this method is effective at reversing grey hair or not (we haven’t tried it ourselves), many mediteranean cultures swear by it.

We can’t say it works, but we do know that sage will definitely add shine and luster by promoting your hair health.

Softness & Shine

Sage makes a great hair conditioner. Sage is loaded with vitamins and strenghtens your hair by all the ways mentioned above.

As you know, strong hair will not break as easily, so you can kiss those split ends and flyaways goodbye. Which will also make your hair more manageable. And strong hair is softer. Light passing over strong, healthy hair, is not diverted to flyaway and split ends, so your hair looks shinier.

To Review…

In case you always skip to the bottom first, let’s jump right into the point of this blog post. (Spoiler alert!)

Sage promotes hair growth and leaves hair healthier, more manageable, softer, and shinier.

Who’s down with that?

(Only everyone!)

Secret Beauty Hacks With Your Favorite Products https://luxeorganix.com/secret-beauty-hacks-with-your-favorite-products/ Thu, 22 Sep 2022 03:24:56 +0000 https://luxeorganix.com/?p=49949 The post Secret Beauty Hacks With Your Favorite Products appeared first on LuxeOrganix.

]]>

We know everyone loves a good lifestyle hack so we asked around the office to see what people were doing with their favorite LuxeOrganix products.

Some of what we heard hadn’t even crossed our minds!

So, today, we’re sharing our favorite secret beauty hacks from the LuxeOrganix team. We’re keeping everyone’s identity secret, but feel free to share these with your friends.

From lightening your elbows to eliminating athlete’s foot and diaper rash, there’s something for just about everyone here.

Lighten Dark Elbows & Knees

Dark elbows and knees are simply patches of darker skin on your elbows and knees. While darker skin can occur anywhere, your elbows are more vulnerable because you pay less attention to them. More prominent parts of your body, like your face, probably get more attention, including more beneficial treatments.

Several factors can cause or contribute to darker skin on your elbows, including:

 • an accumulation of dead skin cells
 • hyperpigmentation caused by sun exposure
 • melasma (dark spots) from a pregnancy or birth control pills
 • freckles and age spots
 • skin conditions, such as psoriasis and eczema
 • inflammation from a previous injury

Naturally darker skin tones are also more prone to darkening of their elbows and knees.

How do you treat it?

The favorite hack for this in our office was using Brilliant Eyes cream twice per day on your elbows, knees, and other darker skin areas (armpits or heels, anyone?).

We formulated Brilliant Eyes with Eyebright. Eyebright is a small white-flowered plant officially named Euphrasia, which has been used in herbal medicine for centuries.

Eyebright reduces puffiness, calms redness, and brightens dark spots on your skin. Its anti-inflammatory and astringent properties work as exfoliators and toners for your skin. It’s well known for clearing blocked pores and tightening the complexion for a flawless, even appearance. It also balances oil production and helps to maintain the skin’s pH to keep excess sebum under control.

Eyebright is a great healer for acne, blemishes, and skin conditions like rosacea and eczema, and despite its powerful effects, eyebright is a gentle herb.

Perfect for eliminating and softening those elbows and knees.

Oh, Baby!

Babies have very delicate skin. That’s why there are so many baby care products. Good baby care products are gentle.

Because babies have such sensitive skin, they can easily develop a lot of skin issues. Rashes–like diaper rash or drool rash, eczema, dry skin, dermatitis, and baby acne are all pretty common. These can result in itchy, uncomfortable, dry, and cracked skin.

How do you heal these issues and keep your baby’s skin soft, moisturized, and healthy?

Try LuxeOranix Psoriasis Shampoo + Body Wash. This gentle, non-medicated formula helps prevent, soothe, and stop the cycle of dry, irritated, flaky skin on the body or the scalp. It’s perfectly pH balanced and has no harsh chemicals or fragrance so it will not cause any irritation. There are also no sulfates, SLS, sodium chloride, parabens, drying alcohols, gluten, dyes, or phthalates, making it safe for sensitive skin, children, and babies.

A Remedy for Dry, Rough Patches & Tiny Bumps

If you’ve got rough, dry, bumpy skin – this one is for you!

Keratosis pilaris is a common skin condition that causes dry, rough patches with tiny bumps, often on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks, or buttocks. Sometimes called chicken or goose-flesh, the bumps don’t usually hurt or itch. Keratosis pilaris can occur at any age, but it’s common in young children.

Keratosis pilaris is considered to be just a variation of normal skin. It can’t be cured or prevented, but you can manage it with moisturizers to improve the appearance of the skin.

The beauty hack we stumbled upon is to use the ReNew Exfoliating Face Mask Polishing Scrub.

Gently scrub the affected area with ReNew, and then let it sit on your skin for 5-10 minutes. The scrub will clear clogged pores and uncover fresh, glowing skin, while the hydrating oils and natural ingredients soften, moisturize, heal, and protect.

This hack also works for the dry skin on your hands, elbows, and heels. As an added bonus, ReNew contains ingredients known to help aid in fading and brightening age spots or discoloration on this skin, too!

Get a Close Shave

If you’re like some of the women in our office, your shower shaving techniques probably include reaching for whatever is close at hand that will help glide your razor without nicks and scrapes.

If you reach for a bar soap, you probably end up with dry, itchy skin. And if you end up with shaving creams, you might also end up with irritated skin, rashes, or bumps from the harsh ingredients and fragrances they contain.

What’s a girl to do?

Our favorite hack is using your Biotin Shampoo as a shave gel. It gently stimulates and soothes with healing anti-inflammatory essential oils and plant extracts to hydrate and protect your skin.

Chock full of ingredients like nettle leaf extract, calendula, olive, and jojoba oils benefit your skin and accelerate the healing process of wounds, allergies, and rashes.

If you’re more of a shave cream kind of gal, another favorite shaving hack is using LuxeOrganix CoWash Cleansing Conditioner. It’s enriched with Peppermint Oil that ignites your senses and leaves your shaved skin feeling refreshed. Considering it’s designed to protect and preserve your hair’s natural oils, just imagine what it can do for your skin with its natural botanicals and nutrients for enhanced moisture.

Put Your Feet First

Your feet are important. You stand and walk on them all day long. Problems with your feet can be debilitating. Keeping them healthy is relatively easy and taking care of them is a snap. Read on for some of our favorite foot care hacks.

If you struggle with Athlete’s Foot, you know what it’s like… a scaly rash, itching, stinging, burning, and not only uncomfortable but also embarrassing for others to see.

Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) is a fungal skin infection that usually begins between the toes. It commonly occurs when feet get sweaty while confined in tight-fitting shoes. The sweating, combined with the tight shoes, helps create the perfect conditions for this fungus to grow.

Athlete’s foot is contagious and can be spread via contaminated floors, towels, or clothing.

Important: If your condition is extreme, or if it does not begin to heal in a week or so, you should seek care from your primary healthcare practitioner. You may need anti-fungal medications.

Our hack might help you nip this condition before it warrants a visit to the doctor.

Using the Biotin Shampoo as a daily foot wash might help you avoid athletes’ foot. This is because of the essential oils of Tea Tree, Peppermint, and Rosemary, with anti-fungal properties, as well as, Horsetail Plant Extract, Sage, and other botanicals, that reduce inflammation, sweating, and fungal growth, and help to heal the skin.

It also works wonders on stinky feet!

And, Ladies, if you want really soft feet, try using our Biotin Conditioner with your pumice stone or callus grater. The Ginkgo Leaf Powder promotes circulation, while Sage, Peppermint, and Rosemary’s anti-bacterial and anti-septic properties help keep your skin healthy (no athlete’s feet for you!). The Aloe Vera, Jojoba, and Hemp Seed Oil will help soften callouses and keep your skin smooth and hydrated.

Just For Men

It may have been whispered to us, but we heard it loud and clear… Men have been using our Brilliant Eyes Cream and Vitamin C Moisturizer as post-shave remedies.

This one surprised us, but only for a brief moment.

To get a sharp, close shave, you need to moisturize the skin and the hair on the beard and mustache. Softening your stubble makes it less irritating to remove, and both the Brilliant Eyes Cream and Vitamin C Moisturizer do just that, while also softening and moisturizing the skin so the razor blade can more easily remove the hair.

Once you’ve shaved the hair off, you also need to heal your skin from any nicks and keep it moisturized so that it stays healthy and calm.

Both the Brilliant Eyes Cream and the Vitamin C Moisturizer with their organic and natural ingredients help with this.

Brilliant Eyes has a unique blend of organic and natural ingredients that infuse and hold moisture, promoting long-term skin health. It’s also got Squalane in it, which has been used historically medically to treat wounds and burns (so just imagine its soothing and healing qualities for post-shaving!).

Our Vitamin C Moisturizer blends penetrating antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients to stimulate new cell growth, and elasticity, and locks in long-lasting moisture essential for keeping your skin hydrated and protected from harsh environment & climate trauma. It soothes sensitive skin, and the Vitamin C contained is a proactive remedy for skin that’s prone to break-outs and irritation, by balancing oily skin, and reducing dryness and itching,

Gentlemen, you cannot go wrong using either of these to shave your face! Try both and discover your favorite!

We’re all aware that too much sun can cause a painful sunburn, but many believe that’s the extent of sun damage.

It’s not.

Brown spots, wrinkles, broken capillaries, loss of skin tone (decreased elasticity), rough, uneven skin texture, and redness or blotchiness are all the result of too much UV exposure.

When Too Much Sun Causes Problems

It’s important to note that ALL skin types — white, olive, brown, black, and everything in between — all skin burns when overexposed to UV rays.

Damage to your skin occurs when ultraviolet (UV) light penetrates unprotected skin, causing changes to your inner layers of skin. Dermatologists refer to this damage as photoaging, photodamage, solar damage, or sun damage.

Because this UV damage happens in the deeper layers of your skin—the dermis—it can take years before it becomes visible.

With sun damage being largely invisible for a long time, we continue to romp in the sun and forget about protecting ourselves from it. Years of damage can build up and cause scaly and rough patches of skin, skin cancer, or even changes to your DNA.

Have you ever seen older, very tanned people with skin like leather?

That’s extreme sun damage. It doesn’t happen overnight, it accumulates…

Can You Reverse Sun Damage?

No matter how many years of sun your skin has been subjected to, it’s not too late to start reversing the damage.

You may not be able to reverse all signs of sun damage, but you can definitely improve it.

How?

We’re glad you asked!

Dermatologists recommend retinol as one of the top solutions for sun-damaged skin.

Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A. It works by encouraging cell turnover and increasing collagen production, both of which help fight almost all signs of sun damage. Retinol can even out pigmentation issues and fade brown spots.

The problem with retinol is that it can dry out your skin and irritate sensitive skin.

Bakuchiol, a plant-based retinol alternative may be a better solution.

This natural ingredient doesn’t dry out or irritate skin like retinol, so it’s safe to use for those with sensitive skin (and it’s even encouraged by dermatologists).

Like retinol, bakuchiol helps the skin turn over quicker and boosts collagen production resulting in plumper, brighter skin, reduced fine lines, faded discolorations, and fewer wrinkles.

That’s why we use this amazing plant-powered miracle worker in LuxeOrganix Kakadu Vitamin C Brightening Serum and our Brilliant Eyes Daily Eye Cream.

Microdermabrasion is recommended for renewing skin tone and texture.

Microdermabrasion can improve the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, acne scarring, melasma, and other skin-related issues.

The process sprays fine particles of aluminum oxide or sodium bicarbonate onto your skin to blast away the topmost layers. Blasted layers are quickly suctioned up leaving soft, smooth, clear skin.

You can accomplish similar results by adding exfoliation to your skincare routine once or twice each week.

Exfoliation removes the top layers of dry, dead skin at home, without needing any expensive machinery.

LuxeOrganix ReNew Exfoliating Face Mask Polishing Scrub uses fine grit from walnut and bamboo plus glycolic acid, to gently reveal your younger skin. It’s also loaded with botanicals like Turmeric and Australian Kakadu Plum to brighten and balance your skin, without stripping moisture and essential oils.

Moisturizing is the key to younger skin.

Once your younger skin begins to appear, you need to keep it moisturized. These products help skin absorb and retain moisture, which softens the skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines. Moisture also helps your skin maintain its health, which gives your body a strong barrier against environmental pollution, germs, and dirt.

Start by using a moisturizer specifically created for your eye area. This area tends to show age and sun damage easily, in the form of crow’s feet, fine lines, puffiness, and discoloration.

LuxeOrganix Brilliant Eyes Daily Eye Cream gently firms, hydrates, and tightens the delicate skin around your eyes. It’s packed with natural anti-aging ingredients that don’t strip, dry, or leave any build-up. Its botanical beauty enhancers include Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel, and Sea Fennel — all of which leave your eye area smooth, soft, and brighter. Combined with Matrixyl 3000, this formulation will help you turn back the hands of time (and sun damage) on your peepers.

For your face, neck, and decollete, LuxeOrganix Vitamin C Moisturizer is a daily lotion that hydrates, nourishes, and firms sagging skin. Vitamins C, B5, and E work together with Green Tea, Aloe Vera, Gotu Kola, Sunflower, and Jojoba oils to reinvigorate parched skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, age spots, and skin blotches.

It’s loaded with penetrating antioxidants and anti-inflammatory nutrients that stimulate new cell growth, promote skin elasticity, and lock in long-lasting essential moisture to keep your skin soft and smooth, and protected from harsh environments and climate trauma.

Protect Your Skin

Remember that leathery-skinned person? You don’t have to look like that!

Take the time to heal your skin and reverse any damage you have now. Don’t forget to cover up your new skin — protect it with sunscreen and a hat and you’ll keep it younger-looking well into your golden years.

A 2018 consumer survey by Swiss personal care ingredient manufacturer Gattefossé revealed that 46% of the women surveyed were somewhat dissatisfied with the state of their hair.

The frizzies, thinning hair, dry hair, hair that breaks, unmanageable hair… all of these were mentioned.

With all that’s going on in the world, we don’t imagine it’s gotten much better.

Life is too short to be unhappy with your hair! Plus, whatever the root cause of your concern is, you can fix it.

Let’s break your hair concerns into a few groups: hair loss, dry and damaged hair, and styling woes.

 • Hair loss includes hair that is falling out in clumps, or more hair than normal falling out naturally when you brush or touch it.
 • Dry and damaged hair includes hair that seems weak and prone to breaking, hair that feels or looks like straw, or that has a lot of split ends.
 • And styling woes might include anything like flat, dull, frizzy hair, or hair that just cannot be tamed.

Is it Stress?

Many people just take their hair as it is and think that’s the best it will be. But these hair issues might actually be the result of stress or anxiety.

Hair stress is a real thing. It can result in dry and damaged hair, dullness, thinning, and hair loss. And those untamable bad hair days… yep! Stress might be a contributing factor.

Dry & Damaged Hair

While there’s plenty of evidence showing a link between stress and hair loss, stress can also lead to dryness, dull or lackluster hair, and breakage.

Stress and anxiety cause changes in your body. Most commonly, and often unseen, are the changes to the type and amount of hormones in your body. Any increase or decrease in your body’s hormones can result in changes to the strength and texture of your hair.

For example, when estrogen levels rise during pregnancy, hair can become shinier, and more manageable. This occurs because the hair follicle gets slightly sturdier, and less prone to frizzing. There’s also an increased blood flow and more nutrients in your body, both of which benefit your scalp. Many women experience their best hair texture during pregnancy. On the other hand, menopause causes androgen hormone levels to increase, while estrogen levels drop in response. This results in thinning hair and a dryer scalp, which weakens hair follicles.

Hair Loss

Stress can push your hair follicles into a “resting” phase so that they don’t produce new hair strands. Over time, strands can fall out more easily, even if you’re just washing, combing, or touching it. Because your hair is in the resting phase, these stands do not get replaced.

Telogen effluvium is a form of temporary hair loss that happens after stress, a shock, or a traumatic event. It causes diffuse thinning, a type of hair loss that affects your entire scalp. If you have telogen effluvium, your hair will look thinner and less dense than normal, especially under bright light.

Telogen effluvium can also be caused by poor nutrition and changes in hormone levels.

Styling Woes

If you’re struggling to tame an unruly mane, stress might be to blame. Frizzy, dry hair, as mentioned above, can be caused by hormone changes because of the stress you’re feeling. Before you cut it all off in a pixie (though we’re sure you’d look amazing!) consider adding products to gently tame your troubles.

Stress and changes in your hair don’t have to be permanent.

So how do you take the stress out of your hair?

First, check in with your healthcare professional just to rule out any medical conditions for the changes in your hair.

Once you get the green light, it’s time to grow your best hair ever.

Ready? …Let’s do it!

Feed Your Scalp

Beautiful, healthy hair starts at the scalp. When your scalp is healthy, not dry and itchy, your hair follicles are strong and nourished.

Give your hair much-needed nutrition by enjoying a healthy diet, taking your vitamins, and using products designed to nourish your scalp.

Products with biotin, like LuxeOrganix Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner, help strengthen your hair and promote healthier hair growth. This biotin power pair gently stimulates and soothes your scalp with healing anti-inflammatory essential oils and plant extracts that overcome and prevent scalp issues. The shampoo and conditioner are loaded with organic and natural ingredients that work to relieve dryness and itching on your scalp, returning it to its proper pH levels.

Care for Your Hair

A common reason for unmanageable hair is too little or too much moisture or protein.

So how can you tell if you need moisture or protein? The easiest way to determine what you need is the pull test. Take a wet or dry strand of your hair and gently stretch it. If it barely stretches and snaps, you need more moisture and you might have too much protein.

Also, if you brush your hair and strands fall out, you need protein.

To relieve dryness and lock moisture in, treat your hair with an occasional deep conditioner. Hair that is properly moisturized is bouncy, shiny, and soft. LuxeOrganix Deep Conditioner Hair Mask is safe for all hair types, paraben and sulfate-free, and it’s also safe for keratin and color-treated hair. This conditioning mask transforms dull, dry hair with botanicals and vitamins (A, C, D, and E), and hydrates with anti-drying ingredients, including Certified Organic Virgin Coconut Oil and Certified Organic Fair Trade Shea Butter.

To add protein, try LuxeOrganix Bond Integrity Protein Treatment. This ultra-nourishing and gentle protein treatment mask works wonders on your hair and your senses! Ancient amino acids from hydrolyzed rice and quinoa proteins, panthenol (vitamin B-5), and 2% biotin strengthen & support the integrity of bonds in your hair.

Organic aloe, shea butter, jojoba, hemp, and coconut oils deeply hydrate and smooth, leaving your hair feeling voluminous, strong, and healthy.

Reduce Your Stress

It’s not easy to take the stress out of your everyday life, but you can take steps to manage it. Self-care is an important aspect of stress management and hair care.

Do things you enjoy, find reasons to laugh out loud, exercise, call a friend, or take a nap under your favorite tree… whatever you do, make time for you. Self-care is a great way to manage stress.

If you get your stress under control, you’re giving your hair the nudge it needs to grow healthy again.

This summer, for the health of your hair, give your shampoo a vacation.

We don’t mean to skip cleaning your hair, just skip your shampoo in favor of a co-wash.

And you don’t need to take the whole summer off, but a few days here and there might benefit you in ways you haven’t considered.

Men. pay attention — this is important for you, too, if you want soft, healthy, touchable hair.

Whether you’re a seasoned co-wash pro, or a relative newbie, co-washing should be on your radar. Especially in the summer, when hair can be extra dry, thanks to the sun, chlorine and salt water, hot weather, and wind.

What Is CoWashing?

So what is co-washing, and why is everyone talking about it?

The term “co-wash” is a combination of the words conditioner (“co”) and washing (“wash”). Co-washing is washing your hair solely with conditioner, or a hybrid conditioner like LuxeOrganix CoWash Cleansing Conditioner.

Many people who cowash claim benefits like:

 • hair that feels more hydrated and healthy
 • improved moisture in curly or kinky hair
 • better curl definition
 • hair that is stronger and breaks less easily
 • softer hair

Cowashing is also helpful to those of us with a need to shampoo very often (think: gym, work, lifestyles that get your hair sweaty).

Cutting down on the number of times you shampoo may help restore your hair’s natural moisture balance, which means softer, shinier hair.

Why take a break from your shampoo?

Many store-bought shampoos include sulfates, which are detergents that not only clean your hair but strip the natural oils and moisture. Sulfates are not good. They leave your hair dry, dull, and more prone to breakage, and can cause scalp health issues for some.

Co-washing was initially created to cut down on the use of sulfates so your hair could maintain its natural moisture levels and grow healthier and more resilient hair.

Nowadays, co-washing isn’t just about skipping sulfates; it’s more about the health of your hair. Even if your shampoo is sulfate-free, like LuxeOrganix shampoos, changing up your hair care routine periodically may keep your hair more responsive to your usual products. Plus, the use of a cowash adds extra moisture to your hair, and that’s never a bad idea.

Shampoo vs CoWash

Shampoos and conditioners are created with two different purposes. Shampoos remove oils and buildup from the hair and scalp, while conditioners generally add moisture and smooth the hair cuticle to reduce frizz.

Both shampoos and conditioners, however, do share something in common: they both contain surfactants, which are substances that wash away oil and dirt.

Most store-bought shampoos contain anionic surfactants, such as sodium lauryl sulfate, which creates a lather. (Ugh! Sulfates!!) Sometimes, they contain amphoteric surfactants instead, which are milder, like those used in baby shampoos.

By contrast, conditioners usually contain cationic surfactants, such as cetyl alcohol. Rather than create lather, these substances cling to the surface of your hair, coating the follicle and smoothing it.

Because these ingredients are also surfactants, it is possible to clean your hair with products containing them. And unlike shampooing, cowashing will not strip your hair or scalp of as much moisture.

Ready to Co?

If you’re ready to give cowashing a try, pick up a cowash shampoo, like LuxeOrganix CoWash Cleansing Conditioner. Our CoWash condioner is specifically formulated to leave your hair clean, soft, and healthier.

Be sure the cowash you select includes ingredients that will benefit your beautiful locks, not harm them. Look for things like:

 • Emollients (like Cetyl Alcohol, derived from coconut oil) that help to soften and smooth the cuticle and reduce frizz;
 • Proteins (like hydrolyzed rice protein) that are known to strengthen hair fibers while repairing & conditioning hair.
 • Humectants (like ProVitamin B5 and Lactamide MEA) which penetrate the hair cuticle and help absorb and lock in moisture.
 • Moisturizers (including amino acids, aloe vera, jojoba, etc.) — these add softness and shine to your hair.

Whether you choose to use a CoWash, or your daily conditioner, be sure it’s sulfate-free. Sulfates strip your hair of essential oils and will dry your hair out.

Now that you’ve decided on a product to use, it’s time to “co!”

Get Co-ing!

Start by thoroughly wetting your hair, then take a small amount of your cowash and massage it into your entire scalp, using your fingertips to rub gently just like you do when shampooing. Your cowash combined with the friction of your fingertips will loosen any dirt and residue on your scalp without stripping your natural oils.

Once you’re massaged your scalp for a few minutes, rinse thoroughly. And by “thoroughly” — we mean more than you think you need to.

Next, take your regular amount of conditioner and condition as usual, carefully removing any tangles with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb. Be sure to spread the conditioner throughout the length of your hair.

Rinse your conditioner out thoroughly, too. Then dry and style as you would normally.

Note that if your hair feels greasy or heavy after you’ve cowashed, it’s likely that you did not rinse your hair completely, either with your cowash or your conditioner. Products left in your hair will attract any dirt and dust in the environment, leaving your hair feeling heavy, flat, or greasy.

Remember, you’re using your cowash days in between your regular washing, or (better!) in place of one or two regular shampoo days each week. Shampoo is still important, just not daily.

Co Your Own Way

There are no hard rules for the right way to cowash your hair. Some people cowash almost daily, while others cowash just a few times per week or month.

You are unique, so the best option for you depends on your hair type, how it responds to your routine, and your personal preferences.

Start by committing to using it twice per week, and adjust as needed.

Giving your shampoo a vacation just might be the summer break that leaves your hair softer, shinier, and healthier!
